![]() You’ll see some command-line stuff come up at the bottom of the Skyrim launcher after you subscribe to a mod. In any case, this tells the Skyrim launcher to now download and install the mod package. Really confusing language, I thought for awhile this meant I was subscribing to their news feed or something. Originally posted by Myacidtrip: it would be nice downloading mods easy through a trusted official channel instead of having to go to nexus make an account, get vortex and just on and on. I didn’t like that they called it “Subscribe”. Now rather than copying several directories into steam folders, all I need to do is click on the “subscribe” button. I decided to try out the page for one of the better mods I’ve encountered in the past: Arrowsmith. ( Update: This was just a first-glance impression, at closer inspection all I see for sorting is “tags” on the right, but there’s no search feature, not sure why) I really like the highlights that come up on the front page and I hope this means the better mods get more attention. You’ll be taken to a page that shows new and popular mods and what looks like a huge amount of sorting and search tools, although I didn’t quite explore these yet. To get to the workshop click on the “ Browse the workshop” button from Skyrim in the Steam library. In Steam Workshop you “subscribe” to a mod, which I assume means that you will not only install the mod, but also get any subsequent updates automatically. So what I’m more concerned about is how am I going to get all these new mods? It looks like Steam has us covered.įrom what I found its pretty easy to install mods now. But I’m much less of a modder and more of a…moddee. Make sure your skyrim is up to date, and that you have any requirements for mods added.I’m sure a lot of people are really excited to get their paws on the new Skyrim Creation Kit, which should make modding much more easily accessible to the Skyrim community. Make a backup of your data folder before adding more mods, and only add them one at a time and test skyrim after adding each one to make sure it is not causing issues.ģ. Make an entire clean backup of your skyrim folder so you don't have to re-download or anything to re-install it.Ģ. Something I would highly suggest when modding skyrim:ġ. (You can still change settings and toggle mods in the normal launcher, just not start the game) If mods give this much headache.pretty sure they aren't worth it.Īctually there is something else you could try, there is a tool for skyrim called "SKSE" or "Skyrim Script Extender" (or something like that), some mods require it to be used for skyrim to be able to launch, you just download the thing, install it in your skyrim directory, then use that to launch skyrim. Why do I have to reinstall? How stupid is that? Click OK, then click OK in the Properties window also.(If the Allow box is ticked and greyed out, then you already have Full Control permissions through another folder higher up, such as your Steam folder.) Tick the Allow box next to Full Control. In the box at the top, click on "Users ( /Users)".Click the "Edit." button below the top box.Click 'Properties.' and navigate to the "Security" tab.In Windows Explorer, go to your 'Steam\SteamApps\common\' folder and right-click your Skyrim folder.Give yourself Full Control permissions on your Skyrim folder.Tick the checkbox next to "Run this program as an administrator".Click 'Properties.' and navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.Right click the TESV.exe found in your 'Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim' folder (or alternatively a shortcut to it on your desktop). The only mod I have activated now is 2k HD textures, I also did this: then it closes and the splash screen reopens again. It just goes to the splash screen where I click Play, then it asks for permission.
